Xbox One Review

December 12, 2013 | By More

The Xbox One is a lot more than just a video game system, and uses new live TV integration and other technologies to deliver a total connected entertainment experience. Microsoft has created a centerpiece for your living room that can combine video game play, sports, movies, TV, music and more into one instrument, the Xbox One console. Voice and gesture controls, a second generation Kinect and PC tablet wireless control are all on board, and the gaming performance is quick. Let’s dig inside the Xbox One console and see what is going on.

Key Features of Xbox One

  • Cloud processing boosts horsepower and game play speed
  • Uses Kinect controller
  • Live TV interaction and integration
  • 8 AV and PC connector ports on the back
  • Includes 1,080P Kinect out of the box

Who is The Xbox One Game System For?

The Xbox One is more expensive than the PS4, and while that may be considered a downfall in the eyes of some gamers, the new video game console system does deliver several next-generation innovations. You can actually integrate live TV with the Xbox One thanks to the HDMI in, HDMI out pass-through technology. With this you can take over a cable box signal, even live TV. This allows you to bypass constantly switching inputs whenever you want to move from TV to video games.

This advanced triple-layered operating system means all you need to do is say “Xbox, TV” or “Xbox, game” to flip back and forth between inputs. This cutting-edge technology makes for ease-of-use, and the Kinect camera seems superior to other video game system camera models. On the downside, the unit is very “boxy looking”. This does not in any way affect the performance or features of the Xbox One system, which contains only a single slot loading disk drive on the front of the box.

Another nice point is that the 1,808P Kinect camera is included, and the instant switching ability is built in to the new Kinect. On the specs side, the advanced Xbox One uses a more advanced sensor which can process 2GB of data per second. This quicker and faster brain can track up to six Kinect skeletons at once, and Microsoft’s Time-of-Flight technology makes for a speedier and more realistic interpretation of a player’s movements.

With over 40 innovative new features, the improved dual analog sticks were probably the biggest upgrade. They have a “no drop” micro-texture grip, and are much slimmer and smaller than those for the Xbox 360.

The Xbox One will appeal to those gamers who want a faster and more realistic gaming experience and entertainment integration, and while more expensive than some other console systems, the technological advancements and instant switching ability make for a worthwhile purchase. And, if you are looking for a gift that will completely amaze your teen this Christmas, the Xbox One will certainly do that!
